He graduated from Rocky Ford High School and went on to earn his Bachelors of Science from the University of Colorado. He served the United States Navy aboard the USS Taylor in the Korean War. His passion for geology led him back to education at the University of Texas, where he earned his Masters of Geology and widely traveled the United States studying geologic formations. He met his wife Helen and earned a Doctorate of Geology from the University of Michigan where Nancy Jeanne was born. His first job as a Professor of Geology at the University of Mississippi led the family to Oxford, Mississippi where Edward Bruce was born. The family blossomed in the small community of Friendswood, TX, where Dave and Helen established a legacy of faith and service which continues with his children and grandchildren. He thoroughly enjoyed playing bridge with Helen and friends in several bridge groups, delighted in pot-luck suppers, and rarely missed Sunday school classes with life-long friends at Friendswood United Methodist Church.
