In Loving Memory of Thomas Patrick McGrann

Thomas Patrick McGrann peacefully passed away on February 26, 2025, in Houston, Texas. Born on March 15, 1941, in Watertown, South Dakota, Tom lived a life full of achievement, love, and cherished moments.

Tom's early years in South Dakota were marked by his passion for basketball and the outdoors. He attended Watertown High School, where he was a proud member of the 1959 state championship basketball team and established a longstanding state high school record for the most points scored in a single game. He was named to the high school All-America basketball team, and he was later inducted into the South Dakota sports Hall of Fame. Following high school, he attended the University of Minnesota as a Williams Scholar and graduated with a B.S. degree in business administration. He later obtained an MBA from the University of Chicago. In college he continued to excel on the hardcourt as a three starter for the Golden Gophers establishing records and was named to the All-Big 10 Conference team his sophomore year.

After completing his education, Tom embarked on a successful business career, which spanned several decades including stops in Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, Colorado Springs, CO and eventually landing back in Houston TX until his retirement in 2002. His retirement allowed Tom the freedom to travel and spend more time at the family’s cabin on Pelican Lake, near Brainerd MN.

Tom's first wife, Elizabeth, passed away in 2000. Later, Tom found love again and married Marcia, with whom he spent 22

wonderful years. Together, they traveled the world, visited family, and enjoyed spending winters in Houston and summers in Minnesota.

Tom is survived by his children: Michael (Jen), Caroline and Katherine (Michael), and his grandchildren: Nolan, Lucas, Ella, and Anna. He is also survived by Marcia’s daughters Maryann (Clay) and Meredith (Jonathan) their children Loren, Camryn, William, Logan and Grace. Additional family members include his sister Kathy (Leon) and brother Dennis (Elena) and 14 nieces and nephews. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

A private service is planned for later this spring in Dallas, Texas.
