Houston, TX - Ward Leon Dozier, Jr., 73, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2019 at Houston Hospice.
Ward is survived by his sisters Caroleene Bashara and Lanelle Bogue. He leaves behind his daughter, Allison Vinson, and her husband, Pinky Vinson; his daughter, Melinda Ledman, and her husband, Robert Ledman; his four grandchildren, Amber, Noelle, Jordan and Jett Ledman; his nieces, nephews and very close friends.
Born and raised in Houston, Texas, the son of Ward Leon Dozier, Sr. and Lillian May (Gordy) Dozier, Ward was a lifelong resident of Houston. He graduated from Westbury High School, was an Eagle Scout and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He studied engineering at University of Houston, but realized he was better suited for sales. He left college to build a life and health insurance agency, through which he helped people financially plan for their families for over 50 years. Ward was an avid saltwater fisherman, with his favorite fishing holes in Matagorda and Port O'Connor, TX. Most recently, he taught in-depth Bible study classes at his church and served at Turning Point Ministry, the parent ministry of Somebody Cares Houston. He always loved a good joke, a good song, and any opportunity to help someone in need. He was a kind, gentle man, with a big heart for his family and for close friends he met along life's way.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM (9:00 viewing and family visitation) on Friday, December 6 at Terrace United Methodist Church, 1203 Wirt Rd, Houston, TX 77055. A reception at the church and gravesite burial will follow.
If preferred, in lieu of flowers, guests are welcome to donate to their favorite charitable organization, Turning Point Ministries, an organization where Ward served the last few years (www.TPMI.org), or Terrace United Methodist Church (www.TerraceUMC.org).
