William Franklin Gibson

William Franklin Gibson passed away on August 1, 2023.

William, known by his wife and friends as “Bill” was born on May 28, 1931 along with his twin sister, Edith Frances Lance Gibson, the 6th and 7th children of Mr. Robert Finley Gibson and Edith Eulalie Marshall Gibson in Corpus Christi, Texas.

 

“Bill” known as “Sonny” to his family was predeceased in death by his parents Robert and Edith Gibson, sister, Edith Frances Lance and husband Earl, brothers Robert Elmer and wife Mary, James Morgan and wife Gwendolyn, Walter Reinhardt and wife Carrie Jo, Robert Marion “Hoot” and wife Wanda, Hollis Bates and wife Evelyn.  Bill is survived by his lovely, wonderful, wife of 61 years, Deanna Lea Gibson, son Steven Marion Gibson & his fiancé Deneen Morella Weatherly and daughter Terri Gibson McFarling & her husband Brian Thomas McFarling.  Grandchildren: Matthew William Gibson and Andrew Steven Gibson, Abigail Grace McFarling and Molly Elizabeth McFarling. And many nieces and nephews.

 

Bill and Deanna met March 1961 and Married November 25, 1961.  Bill says he was so “smitten” with her the first time they met that he was ready to marry then.  It was such a wonderful marriage that it lasted over 61 years!

 

Bill was raised on a farm in Raymondville, Texas for 10 years, moved to Corpus Christ, Texas in 1940 and graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1948.  In 1951 he joined the U.S. Airforce for years during the Korean war.  In 1955, he attended Del Mar Jr. College for one year, then to A&M College of Texas (now Texas A&M University).  He graduated in 1959 with a BS in Civil Engineering and worked 35 years with Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Corporation, one of the finest companies a person could work for.  He held various jobs and retired May 1995.  From there, Bill and his lovely wife enjoyed many trips during retirement.

  

Bill loved his Lord and loved life.  He had a servant’s heart and was always available and willing to help anyone he could.  He was an active member of Bethel Church for many years.  After retirement he loved to travel and loved the challenge of fixing things and doing wood working projects in his garage. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brookshire Personal Care Home, 21402 Park Bluff Dr, Katy Texas 77450.
